ABOUT THIS TOUR
This special journey through Portugal and Spain, experience the true magic of these country’s culture and people, eat amazing food, drink incredible wine, capture stunning images, and explore the greatest cities that will take your breath away at every turn. This is a unique opportunity to be led by Adam DeSerio, experienced travel guide, sommelier, and photographer, with a rich knowledge and deep cultural understanding and passion for all that Europe has to offer, as well as many local Portuguese and Spanish guides to ensure a very complete and rewarding travel experience.
THE TOUR:
We begin in Porto, the most beautiful coastal city in northwest Portugal, known for its stately bridges and port wine production. We will visit; the São Francisco Church, known for its lavish baroque style with ornate gilded carvings, the Luis 13 Bridge, and UNESCO site that spans the Douro River between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, and the Ribeira Disctric known for its lively restaurants, wine cellars, and local shops. From the Clerigos Church Torre dos Clérigos to the local Mercado do Bolhao food markets. Also, using Porto as our hub, we will take two additional days of day-trips to visit; the Douro Valley on board a traditional Rebelo boat, and Braga & Guimaraes medieval castle and Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary! Additionally we will explore the many museums, tastings, and hands-on experiences of Portugal’s rich wine, chocolate, and cork production history. This provides us with an in depth and local experience in both Porto and its surrounding areas.
Next we fly to Madrid, Spain to explore the many local Spanish tapas and street foods, experience the most amazing live performances of Flamenco Dancing at Corral de la Moreria, partake in a hands-on cooking experience of Paella & Sangria, as well as a day trip to the surrounding areas of Segovia, Avila & Toledo featuring ancient battlements, a soaring cathedral, a historic monastery, and more. Finally, we conclude in Barcelona, Spain, where we truly explore Spain’s rich architecture, gastronomy, and culture. From the ornate Catholic cathedral of La Sagrada Familia and its beautiful gothic towers, to the amazing and unique architecture of Poble Espanyol and Antoni Gaudí, Barcelona offers it all. We will take a day trip to Montserrat, a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in Catalonia, well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat (Black Madonna), and the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary. Truly a once in a lifetime trip through Portugal and Spain!

Full Itinerary below outlines all activities, entrances, hotel nights, transportation, and group meals included throughout the Tour. Most days begin at 9am after breakfast and finish after dinner. There will be occasional free-time made available throughout the tour, while most days are filled with amazing activities, restaurants, and a full itinerary. Most days consist of daily walking around the cities, with frequent stops along the way to enjoy the views and delve into the included activities on our amazing itinerary.
(ARRIVAL) PORTO, PORTUGAL
DAY 0
Tour includes this Arrival Day, with the night to rest at our Tour Hotel. Please arrive on the first date listed under Tour Dates (Day 0). You may arrive anytime, however, check-in may not be available until after 2pm. Coming from the US, you will probably need to book a flight departing the US the “day before”, as time zone differences and total flight time will require that to arrive on Day 0. This first day is just a rest day, so you can be ready for the amazing journey ahead! Next day, Day 1, Tour activities will begin after breakfast.

PORTO, PORTUGAL
DAYS 1 – 5

We will visit; the São Francisco Church, known for its lavish baroque style with ornate gilded carvings, the Luis 13 Bridge, and UNESCO site that spans the Douro Diver between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, and the Ribeira Disctric known for its lively restaurants, wine cellars, and local shops. DOURO WINE VALLEY & RIVER CRUISE
DAY 2 Day Trip From Porto
Explore the wine region of the Douro Valley on this immersive day trip. Feast your senses on the Douro’s many magnificent wineries, restaurants, and viewpoints, while visiting two wineries and tasting some of the region’s best varietals. Visit Sabrosa with a complete traditional lunch Portuguese meal with appetizer, main dish, dessert, and paired with Douro red and white wines. Next, we will drive through the São Cristovão do Douro Pinhão, a beautiful valley and photo viewpoint stop, before setting sail up the Douro river on board of a traditional Rebelo boat. With the remaining time of the day, we will have time to explore one more vineyard and learn even more about the area in Folgosa. This is a day trip, where we return back to Porto in the evening.
BRAGA & GUIMARAES
DAY 4 Day Trip From Porto
We will take a day trip from Porto through the Minho region to explore Guimarães and Braga. Discover the city centers and learn about Portuguese history. We will begin near S. Bento Train Station, then travel to Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal, to explore the medieval castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Braga, one of the oldest Christian cities, we will take time for lunch as well as a visit to the cathedral, historical center, and Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary before returning to Porto in the evening.
MADRID, SPAIN
DAYS 5 – 8
Time to explore Spain! We will fly in the morning from Porto to Madrid, and spend the afternoon exploring Madrid. Visiting many of the varied tapas bars and street foods of Madrid, as well as experiencing one of the most amazing live performances of Flamenco Dancing at Corral de la Moreria while enjoying a dinner at their Michelin Star restaurant. During the next full day in Madrid, get your aprons on and stomachs hungry as we partake in a hands-on cooking experience of the iconic and original Paella of Spain while also making and enjoying the original Sangria recipes. And finally some free time to enjoy Madrid. We will have one full-day trip to Segovia, Avila & Toledo from Madrid.

SEGOVIA, ÁVILA, TOLEDO, ALCAZAR & CATHEDRAL
DAY 6 Day Trip From Madrid
Visit Segovia, Ávila, and Toledo—three cities that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites—on a full-day tour from Madrid that features ancient battlements, a soaring cathedral, a historic monastery, and more. First stop, Toledo, where we will explore inside the neighborhoods of the old town, visit Toledo`s Cathedral, The Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo, and enjoy a panoramic view from the valley as we depart to Avila. We will take a walking tour inside the Fortress City of Avila, the Town of Stones and Saints, as it claims the highest number of Romanesque and Gothic churches per capita in Spain. It has complete and prominent medieval town walls, built in the Romanesque style. Then, in Segovia, we will take a walking tour of the Aqueduct of Segovia; one of the best-preserved elevated Roman aqueducts and the foremost symbol of Segovia. Finally, we conclude with a visit to The Alcázar of Segovia (literally, “Segovia Fortress”), a medieval alcázar, rising out on a rocky cliff above the two rivers near the Guadarrama mountains, it is one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain. The Alcázar was originally built as a fortress but has served as a royal palace, a state prison, a Royal Artillery College and a military academy since then. It is currently used as a museum and a military archives building. This is a day trip, where we return back to Madrid in the evening.
BARCELONA, SPAIN
DAYS 8 – 12
The Catalan capital is one of the most famous cities in the world, known for its rich architecture, gastronomy, and culture. Here in Barcelona, we will take part in an in depth discovery of the worlds largest (still being constructed) and most ornate catholic cathedral in the world, la Sagrada Familia and its beautiful gothic style towers. We will experience the amazing and unique architecture of Poble Espanyol, with streets lined with art, crafts, open air concerts and exhibitions. We will take a day trip to Montserrat, a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in Catalonia, well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, and the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary. Back in Barcelona we will also explore the works of Antoni Gaudí and La Pedrera all while enjoying the amazing Spanish food and wine to conclude our amazing journey together!

MONTSERRAT MOUNTAINS
DAY 10 Day Trip From Barcelona
Take a scenic day trip from Barcelona to explore Mount Montserrat and enjoy a premium Cava wine tour in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. Start with a visit to the Montserrat Monastery, perched on dramatic rock formations 2,380 feet above sea level. Admire its stunning architecture, learn about its rich history, and explore the Santa Cova (Holy Grotto), a significant pilgrimage site, and renowned for its Black Madonna. The surrounding Montserrat Natural Park offers breathtaking views and unique flora. Next, head to Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, in the heart of Catalonia’s cava-producing region. Visit a family-owned cava winery, where you’ll tour the cellars and learn about the traditional sparkling wine production process. The highlight is a tasting of three local Cavas paired with traditional tapas, all set against the scenic backdrop of the Catalan countryside and Montserrat Mountain.
